El tren de la vida

The Museo del Ferrocarril hosts the exhibition El tren de la vida from 8 October 2026 to 10 January 2027, a selection of paintings by Jesús Cerro Casado devoted to the Spanish railway world. The show brings together some twenty canvases in oil and acrylic, drawn from a collection begun in 2005, which explore the aesthetic, symbolic and testimonial dimension of historic stations, platforms and trains.

Through a figurative and realist style, Jesús Cerro Casado (Sabiñánigo, Huesca, 1955) recreates various points of the peninsula's railway network, from the monumentality of the Estación Internacional de Canfranc to various platforms and landscapes of the Murcia region. The careful treatment of light, colour and composition turns everyday spaces of transit into scenes charged with stillness, in which industrial architecture and the tracks relate to their surroundings.

The works address the railway not only as a transport infrastructure but as a setting tied to collective memory and lived experience. Platforms and rails work as metaphors for the passage of time, farewells and reunions, forming a visual record that connects the nostalgia of the classic journey with the human landscape.
