From 8 October to 8 November, the Galician theatre company Chévere presents a production in the Sala Francisco Nieva of the Teatro Valle-Inclán that combines fiction and documentation to reflect upon individual and collective memory, drawing on one of the most significant episodes of repression in Galicia: the assassination of Alexandre Bóveda.

The piece begins with the appearance of a woman who claims to have suffered a stroke during an institutional event held in October 2018 at the City of Culture of Galicia in Santiago de Compostela. Since then, her memory has become fragmented. Unable to remember why she attended that event or what the painting A derradeira leición do mestre meant to her, she embarks on an investigation to reconstruct that day and, with it, recover her own identity.

That personal journey serves as the starting point for a broader reflection on democratic memory and the way in which societies construct, preserve or reinterpret their past. The work takes as its focal point the final painting by Alfonso R. Castelao, considered the "Galician Guernica" due to its value as testimony to the repression unleashed following the 1936 military coup in Galicia. The painting was created in 1945 as a tribute to Alexandre Bóveda, a civil servant and Galician nationalist leader who was executed by firing squad after a summary trial by the rebels.

The staging combines documentary testimonies, historical references and the intimate experience of the protagonist to explore the still-open wounds of collective memory. This is a production that invites audiences to deliberate on the importance of preserving memory as the foundation of democracy and to question how the narratives that make up shared history are constructed, contested and transmitted.
