El prestigioso director Miguel del Arco (Rigoletto, Ricardo III o La señora y la criada) revisita la gran obra de Antón Chéjov con una mirada contemporánea sobre el arte y la condición humana del 18 de mayo al 11 de julio de 2027 en el Teatro Español. Una función que está protagonizada por la actriz Carmen Machi, famosa por su papel en Aída.

Considerada una de las piezas que marcaron el nacimiento del teatro moderno del siglo XX, el montaje sitúa la acción en una finca junto a un lago, donde un grupo de personajes se enfrenta a sus deseos, frustraciones y aspiraciones. El amor, la búsqueda de reconocimiento, el miedo al fracaso y la dificultad para alcanzar los propios sueños conforman un retrato coral de seres atrapados entre lo que son y aquello que anhelaban llegar a ser.

Pero Miguel del Arco pone el foco en el arte y, en particular, en el teatro. Las actrices Arkádina y Nina, junto con los dramaturgos Trigórin y Kostia, representan distintas formas de entender la creación artística. Mientras unos lidian con el desgaste del tiempo y la necesidad de reinventarse en cada nueva obra, otros buscan desesperadamente encontrar una voz propia que les permita convertir sus ideales en realidad.

Lejos de juzgar a sus protagonistas, se observan con una mirada profundamente compasiva, matizada por un humor sutil que permite al espectador sonreír incluso en los momentos más dolorosos. Esa combinación de ironía y ternura convierte la producción en un espejo donde reconocer las propias contradicciones y reflexionar sobre la compleja relación entre la creación artística y la vida.
