Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins is a musical inspired by the nanny created by the British writer P. L. Travers, the protagonist of a series of books published since 1934. The story follows the governess who arrives at the Banks family home in London.

The nanny of the Banks family was born in the book series by P. L. Travers, the first instalment of which was published in 1934. The musical takes that story as its starting point: a governess arrives at the home of the Banks children and changes their routine through imagination and music.

The character's best-known reference is Walt Disney's 1964 film, with songs by the brothers Richard and Robert Sherman, among them Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. The stage version premiered in London's West End in 2004 with a book by Julian Fellowes, and it keeps the structure of the story and its most recognisable musical numbers.

The show is performed at the Auditorio Plácido Domingo in Madrid, as part of its musical programme. It is a production designed for audiences who want to see one of the most famous family stories of the genre live, and it is especially suited to those who already know the film.
