Overview
Visit the Parroquia de los Santos Juanes, originally an old mosque transformed into a chapel, one of the foundational parishes of Valencia following the Christian conquest in the 13th century.
Fires have played a major role in its history, as rebuilding efforts after a fire in 1311 resulted in a larger temple.
A second fire in 1592 prompted a redesign in the Baroque style, giving rise to its current appearance. The interior decoration suffered greatly in a fire in 1936.
A recent restoration effort, supported by the Fundación Hortensia Herrero, has symbolically recovered the apses lost in 1936.
