Sorvina

The American singer-songwriter Sorvina performs on 20 November in the Sala de Cristal at Teatros del Canal as part of the 44th edition of the Festival de Otoño. Based in Berlin, the performer is coming to Madrid to play live the songs from her first album, Oh, the Places You’ll Go, in a recital that blends the rhythms of jazz rap with the pulse of neo-soul, gospel and hip-hop.

Over the past two years, Sorvina has established herself on the independent European circuit after winning the best artist award on the Listen to Berlin platform and being nominated for the Anchor Award at the prestigious German Reeperbahn Festival. Publications such as The Berliner Magazine and the radio station Flux FM have named her one of the artists to watch on the German scene, highlighting a lyrical and elegant style that connects with the work of contemporary poet-rappers such as Little Simz or Noname. Through her rhymes, her compositions address issues such as queer identity, processes of personal healing and joy.

For this date at Teatros del Canal, the artist takes to the stage as a quintet, backed by Jakob Hegner on drums, Karl Kindermann on bass, Elias Olivera Graversen on keyboards and vocals, and Charlotte Colace on backing vocals. The performance comes to Madrid after an international tour that has taken in major festivals in France, Bulgaria, Germany, Switzerland and Italy, as well as the British WOMAD and the Festival de Jazz de Cádiz.
