The Undertones

The Undertones are an Irish punk rock group that emerged in Derry in the mid-seventies. Their sound, with direct melodies and fast guitars, remains a reference point for British pop punk.

The Undertones formed in Derry (Northern Ireland) in 1975 and are one of the key groups of punk rock on the island. Their single « Teenage Kicks », released in 1978, is the song for which they are best remembered and has for decades been cited as a model of fast-chorus pop punk. During their first period, the lead vocals were handled by Feargal Sharkey, who left the group in 1983 to launch a solo career. Damian and John O'Neill, guitar and bass, are the most stable members of the line-up, which keeps alive a repertoire based on those early records.
