Un teatre lliure

The exhibition Un teatre lliure reviews the half-century history of the performing arts institution through five major installations conceived by creators linked to its history.

La Sala d'Exposicions is hosting this exhibition to mark the celebration of the cinquantenari del Teatre Lliure, a project born as a cooperative and established as a benchmark for stage creation. Curated by Tània Balló with a design by Alcubierreestudio, the display shuns traditional retrospective formats to offer a contemporary perspective on the institution's values and trajectory.

The journey through the galleries is structured around five proposals created by set designers associated with the theatre's memory, featuring a tribute to co-founder Fabià Puigserver. Visitors progress through a sequence that includes automata evoking historical productions, samples of stage flooring arranged vertically, an exploration of the architecture and darkness of the black box, a workbench dedicated to the invisible behind-the-scenes team, and a selection of theatrical costumes.

Interspersed between these interventions are four intermission spaces focused on the concepts of community, identity, space and audience. This exhibition is aimed both at performing arts enthusiasts and those interested in the cultural history of Barcelona.
