About — The artist
El Aviador Dro y Sus Obreros Especializados, also known as Aviador Dro, is an electronic music group from Madrid, Spain, founded in 1979. Initially formed by Servando Carballar (keyboards), Arturo Lanz (vocals), Gabriel Riaza (bass) and Juan Carlos Sastre (guitars), they were pioneers of electronic pop in Spain, following in the wake of North American bands such as Devo and The Residents, or the German Kraftwerk.
Their name is a tribute to the opera L'aviatore Dro (1915), a tragic poem in three acts by the Italian composer and musicologist Francesco Balilla Pratella (1880-1955).
