About — The artist
María Lucía Sánchez Benítez (Madrid, 15 March 1982), known artistically as Malú, is a Spanish singer and songwriter.
The artist has been regarded as one of the most important voices in Spanish music. With a solid career behind her, she has sold more than two and a half million records over the course of her career. She has received notable honours, such as the Medal of Andalusia for "a lifetime's career", awarded in 2015, the Ondas Award for "best artist of the year", won in 2014, and two Latin Grammy nominations, one of them in 2011 in the category of "best female pop vocal album". In 2014, she became the first female artist to fill the Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid four times on the same tour, and the only one to repeat this feat two years later.
She has been performing since 1998, with fourteen studio albums, five compilation albums, two live albums and one documentary. Over the course of her professional career, she has earned nineteen platinum albums and six gold albums, for albums alone. She is also one of the Spanish artists with the most awards and nominations at national and international level, including sixteen Premios Dial (making her the most awarded artist in the award's history), five Premios 40 Principales, six nominations at the World Music Awards and four Premios Cadena 100, among others.
She took part as a coach on the programme La Voz (Telecinco), where she won the second and fourth editions with David Barrul and Irene Caruncho respectively. She was a member of the jury of La Voz Kids (Spain) in its first edition, in which María Parrado went on to win. Outside her career, she has been a prominent brand ambassador and has supported various charities working against cancer, animal abuse or environmental abuse.
