We began exploring, recounting and performing video game music, starting from the arcade masterpieces Ghosts 'n Goblins and Ghouls 'n Ghosts (Arcade Music vol. 1). The following year we told you about the decade from 1985 to 1995 that accompanied our afternoons on the beach in front of the arcade cabinets (Arcade Music vol. 2). Coin after coin, we performed the OSTs of Tron, Tetris, Altered Beast and other classic games of the past.

Then we told you about the following decade up to 2005 (Arcade Music vol. 3): creatures turned into hamburgers, Final Fantasy VII, Ico: Castle in the Mist, Half Life, the genius of Kenji Eno, Tomb Raider and much more. The soundtrack grows richer, moving away from the typical 8-bit sound and becoming ever denser, more orchestral and more intricate.

By now Arcade Music is a true magazine that does not only talk about video game music, but opens the doors to gaming more broadly. Over these years we have covered Tz0, the 19’40’’ video game, presented the boardgame Soulgivers, and got to know the collective We Are Müesli and the philosopher Stefano Gualeni.

This fourth instalment of Arcade Music explores the fateful and ever more recent decade from 2005 to 2015.
