Raffy Bushman + Cecilia Barra

Raffy Bushman at BIKO

Raffy Bushman has for several years been one of the most important voices in the British underground jazz scene. From his early piano trio projects, centred on exploring the symbiotic relationship between jazz and hip-hop, to his innovative experiments straddling jazz and classical music with his string quintet, the NuShape Orchestra and Unit 31, Bushman is an artist deeply rooted in the jazz tradition of reinterpretation, innovation and research.

In 2026, Raffy released his debut album, New Life (Bridge The Gap Records). On this record, the pianist returns to his roots, resuming work with his trusted piano trio, but with many more years of creative and personal experience behind him. The project was born during a newly blossomed romance, followed by the news that the couple's first child was on the way. The album thus becomes the soundtrack to this love and to the birth of a new family.

Raffy Bushman will present New Life live at BIKO in a trio with Enrico Palmieri on double bass and Fabio De Angelis (Devra) on drums.

Opening the evening is the live set by Cecilia Barra, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Milan. In her music, jazz, soul and R&B blend into one another, across unconventional structures and sudden shifts of scene, where lyrics and melodies inspired by Lucio Dalla and Fabrizio De André meet the more contemporary sound of Hiatus Kaiyote, Jordan Rakei and RAYE.

After her experience with the jazz-fusion band Fool Arcana, she decided to write, arrange and produce her first solo project, which she will present live for the first time on this occasion, joined on stage by Lost Generation(s).
