About — The venue

The Friedrichswerdersche Kirche is a listed building on Werderscher Markt in the Berlin district of Mitte. Built in 1824–1831 by Karl Friedrich Schinkel in the Neo-Gothic style, on commission from the Prussian Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm, it is one of the earliest prestigious brick buildings since the Middle Ages. After being severely damaged in the Second World War, the single-nave, twin-towered place of worship was reconstructed in 1982–1987. The altar, the pulpit and the coloured glass windows inside still recall its original use as a Protestant church. It currently houses 19th-century sculptures from the Nationalgalerie collection.
