Gran Teatre del Liceu: La clemenza di Tito

Performance of the opera La clemenza di Tito at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. The work tells of Emperor Titus's forgiveness of those who conspired against him, a decision that tests his friendship and his authority.

La clemenza di Tito is an opera seria set in ancient Rome that explores the conflict between justice and forgiveness. Emperor Titus decides to pardon the conspirators, among them his friend Sesto, and the consequences of that decision shape the course of the drama, with a solemn tone and an alternation of recitatives and sung numbers.

The work premiered in 1791 in Prague, on the occasion of the coronation of Leopold II as King of Bohemia. It is a repertory piece that has been staged in numerous theatres, so each production has its own staging decisions.

This performance takes place on the stage of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, which also hosts exhibitions and cultural activities in Barcelona. It is aimed at audiences who love opera and the classical repertoire and wish to follow a story of power, clemency and loyalty.
