Imagen y memoria. Argentina 1976-2003. Fotografías de Eduardo Longoni

The Museo de América is hosting an exhibition from 29 October to 21 March 2027 that presents the project of Argentine photographer Eduardo Longoni. Through a selection of documentary images, it traces almost three decisive decades in Argentina's recent history, from the repression during the last military dictatorship to the consolidation of democracy.

Eduardo Longoni began his professional career in 1979 at the Noticias Argentinas agency, working on the street during the military regime. His camera captured some of the country's most decisive political and social moments, among them the first marches of the Madres de Plaza de Mayo, citizen resistance, police violence and the gradual return of democratic freedoms.

Curated by Raquel Aznar and Lucía del Olmo and organised to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1976 coup d'état, the exhibition marks the start of a new line of research at the Museo de América, focused on examining the events and tensions of the 20th century that continue to shape present-day Latin America. The proposal emphasises the value of photography as an ethical document and historical testimony, inviting visitors to reflect on the defence of human rights and the need to preserve collective memory.

Without doubt, a key visit for those who wish to delve into the recent history of Argentina and to understand, through the direct testimony of the photojournalist, the political and social tensions that marked the country over almost thirty years.
