Overview

Marking the centenary of Marilyn Monroe's birth, The Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid is presenting in its 27 Club space, from 27 October to 18 January 2027, an exhibition that revisits an exceptional view of the American actress and model through the lens of American photographer Allan Grant.

The exhibition, curated by Cristina Carrillo de Albornoz Fisac, independent art curator, critic and writer of well-established international standing, brings together 15 restored photographs from the archives of Chris Flannery and Jasob Grenne. They form part of the shoot carried out for Richard Meryman's interview for LIFE magazine, published two days before the actress's death, and can now be seen in Madrid for the first time. The images are accompanied by an original recording, unreleased for decades, that allows visitors to hear Marilyn herself during that conversation.

The exhibition focuses on two key moments in her career. On the one hand, the years 1953 to 1957, through the 50 sessions Milton H. Greene carried out with Marilyn, which reveal a more personal side. Among them are the two images that were precursors of La Cúpula "A Ballerina" and "The Hooker Sitting".

Of the more than 400 photographs taken during the session, only 15 are shown: images lost for more than 60 years, recovered and restored. The exhibition is completed by the original LIFE magazine, the screening of an unreleased, recently restored recording of Marilyn Monroe's last interview, which lets visitors hear her voice during that conversation with Richard Meryman, and a screenprint based on James Francis Gill's celebrated triptych.
