Ámame como soy

Casa de América hosts a collective exhibition at the Galería Casa de América-ABANCA from 4 November to 15 December, organised with AECID as part of the XXX Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government. The show brings together works by 26 artists from various Ibero-American countries who currently live in Spain and develop their creative practice here.

Curated by the renowned Cuban artist René Francisco Rodríguez, the exhibition features a varied range of pieces, including paintings, photographs, installations and other contemporary formats. Far from attempting to capture a single, closed identity, the selection shows how these artists work in our country, blending their memories of origin with their current life in Madrid and other Spanish cities.

The title of the exhibition is taken from a famous song by Pablo Milanés, paying tribute to the Cuban singer-songwriter, with whom the Madrid institution has a very significant connection: after his death in Madrid in November 2022, the Palacio de Linares hosted his wake.

The itinerary invites reflection on the sense of belonging and the points of encounter between different cultural traditions. As its curator points out, the project does not seek to rigidly define who we are, but rather to glimpse who we are becoming.
