Blanca Nieves

A fresh look at the famous Grimm Brothers' tale, co-produced by El Espejo Negro and Teatro del Soho CaixaBank

A new tragicomic take on the Grimm Brothers' classic, reinterpreted through the poetic and visual universe of director and playwright Ángel Calvente, with a musical composition by maestro Arturo Díez Boscovich. El Espejo Negro and Teatro del Soho CaixaBank produce the show.

Set in an early twentieth-century circus, the story invites us into a fascinating world of puppets, dreams, fantasies and obsessions. Through this story, the play reflects on the rejection and mistreatment suffered by children and adolescents within the family. Without giving up on hope, the show reminds us that life, like the circus itself, is made of contrasts: of light and shadow, of pain and beauty, of losses and discoveries.

SYNOPSIS

On a winter's night Blanca Nieves is born, a girl marked by loss from her very first breath. Motherless from the day she was born, she grows up surrounded by love in a unique universe: the Luna circus, where her father and a troupe of artists become her family. Everything was happiness until, after her father's marriage to Eva, a renowned and very beautiful contortionist, things began to go wrong. A tragic accident leaves the little girl alone, without a father, and in the hands of her new mother, now a widow. But what Blanca Nieves could never imagine is what happens a few months later, when, after a cruel and forced confinement, she is abandoned in a forest of poplars and thorns... Between magic and reality, this story reinvents the classic tale in a world of circus, of fairies without wings, of dethroned princesses and black mirrors, of potions and poisoned apples, of loves and envies that kill, of true friendships... and of giants in top hats. A story, almost real, within a family circle of unhealthy jealousy and abuse that spares no age.
