Gena

Sala Villanos hosts the Korean band GENA live on Sunday 1 November, a group that brings the musical heritage of Korea to Madrid audiences through a contemporary and open proposal. On stage, the band presents a repertoire that combines the traditional melodies of its country of origin with the direct energy of today's instrumental formats.

GENA's repertoire is built around indigenous instruments such as the janggu and the haegeum. Rather than presenting them in a classic folk format, the band integrates them into a modern line-up with guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. The janggu, a traditional hourglass-shaped drum with a narrow body, provides the rhythmic foundation alongside contemporary percussion, while the haegeum, a two-stringed instrument played with a bow, takes on the main melodic lines and solo arrangements.

Over its ten years on stage, the group has developed songs structured to work live without sticking to the conventions of a single style. Its tracks alternate slow melodies with fast, emphatic rhythms, designed to engage the audience and make the room take part in the dynamic of the concert.
