Mark Guiliana Beat Music

Mark Guiliana, considered one of the most highly regarded drummers to emerge from the world jazz scene, performs on 4 November at Sala Villanos as part of the new edition of the Villanos del Jazz concert cycle.

Born in New Jersey in 1980, Mark Guiliana is a drummer, composer, producer and educator, as well as the founder of the independent record label Beat Music Productions. His musical style combines the jazz tradition with electronic experimentation and contemporary rhythms, creating soundscapes that explore new expressive possibilities.

Over the course of his career he has collaborated with artists of the calibre of David Bowie, Brad Mehldau, Avishai Cohen, St. Vincent, Pearl Jam or Matisyahu, demonstrating his versatility and his ability to work across different musical genres.

With more than 15 albums as leader or co-leader and around 35 works as a collaborator, Guiliana has established himself as one of the most innovative drummers of his generation. His music has been compared to a blend of the rhythmic force of Elvin Jones and Art Blakey, the electronic foundations of an 808 drum machine and the influences of J Dilla and Squarepusher.

His live performances stand out for a combination of technical virtuosity, creativity and emotion, offering a sonic experience in which jazz improvisation and electronic experimentation coexist.
