Interior Berlanga. Cine

CaixaForum Madrid hosts an exhibition from 25 November to 23 May 2027 offering an intimate and never-explained view of Luis García-Berlanga (1921-2010). An unprecedented approach, made possible by the cataloguing and digitisation of Berlanga's private archive, which for the first time will be made available to the public.

The exhibition takes visitors on a journey of discovery through the filmmaker's life, his work and his international influence as a fundamental creator of the twentieth century on a European scale. Through its various facets, it explores his historical context, his problems with censorship and personal aspects such as his fears of death, of the future and of women, which became recurring themes in his films.

With a set design of carefully crafted cinematic atmosphere, the display invites visitors to move through key settings of his life, such as an office, a film set, a 1950s cinema or a large Valencian falla in which films and characters from his iconic Berlanguian universe, marked by satire, costumbrismo, caricature and the unexpected, are symbolically set alight.

In addition, the exhibition hosts a participatory experimental space conceived as a small film class led by his son, José Luis García Berlanga. There, the dolly shot and the long take, techniques essential to the filmmaker's craft, are introduced, and the public is invited to create their own dolly shot and interact directly with the camera.
