Clan of Xymox

Clan of Xymox, also known simply as Xymox on their early releases, is a Dutch darkwave band formed in Nijmegen in 1981. They are considered one of the pioneers of this sound, which is characterised by fusing gothic rock with elements of synthpop, new wave and electronic styles. The current line-up comprises Ronny Moorings, Mojca Zugna, Mario Usai and Agnes Jasper, although the original line-up consisted of Ronny Moorings, Pieter Nooten and Anke Wolbert. Their first works were released under the name Xymox by the label 4AD and focused on the 1980s pop sound and on the mainstream of the time. After changing their name to Clan of Xymox, both the sound and the aesthetic of the band developed an increasingly strong relationship with contemporary gothic music, while retaining their roots and their hallmarks. Today they are one of the most highly regarded bands of their style, both outside and within the gothic subculture.
