Davide Tidoni / Piani di scavo - Danae Festival

Davide Tidoni at Teatro Puntozero Beccaria, c/o Istituto penale per minorenni Cesare Beccaria

With Piani di scavo, Tidoni offers a striking listening experience: the first-person account, by Beppe Battaglia, of an attempted escape by several inmates from the Favignana prison in 1975.

Battaglia was one of the prisoners who tried to get past the perimeter wall by digging a tunnel. The work puts the ingenuity, the madness and the tenacity behind the escape plan at the forefront. Not without comic touches, the account cannot fail to move its audience.

It is both a memory of prison and of the struggles of those years, and an invitation to reflect on the deprivation of detention and an incentive to seek one's own freedom.

This situated listening will be followed by a meeting with Beppe Battaglia, in which he will bear witness to his life experience and to the path of struggle that led him to become a writer and a person committed to rehabilitation and inclusion projects within the prison system.

In conversation with Beppe Battaglia will be Luigi Pagano, Guarantor for the Rights of Persons Deprived of Personal Liberty in the Municipality of Milan, and Luca Villa, Public Prosecutor at the Juvenile Court of Milan.

The proposal is staged in collaboration with Puntozero Teatro, a theatre company that runs the theatre inside the Istituto Penale Minorile "Cesare Beccaria" in Milan, the first theatre open to the public in a juvenile prison in Europe, with entrance open to the city.
