Borges: El otro, el mismo

The Fundación Ortega-Marañón is hosting the exhibition Borges: El otro, el mismo from 20 October to 7 November 2026, a documentary and bibliographical display organised as part of the Buenos Aires in Madrid cultural programme. The proposal commemorates the fortieth anniversary of the renowned Argentine author's passing through a selection of historical objects belonging to the Museo del Escritor collection.

Curated by Raúl Manrique Girón and Claudio Pérez Míguez, the exhibition takes the idea of splitting and the construction of different identities as its axis to explore the writer's formative years and his strong connection with the Spanish avant-gardes upon his arrival in Europe. The exhibition as a whole brings together books from his personal library, such as a copy of Wine, Water and Song annotated in Granada in 1919 or a volume of Martín Fierro dedicated in 1926, alongside a series of unpublished letters addressed by the poet to Francisco Luis Bernárdez and testimonies of his relationship with the Ultraist Jacobo Sureda in works such as Luna de enfrente.

The exhibition also presents first editions of his works, among which are copies of Ficciones and El Aleph that belonged to Julio Cortázar, as well as a copy of Otras inquisiciones owned by Alejandra Pizarnik. The narrative is complemented by photographic portraits signed by Sara Facio, Alicia D’Amico and Anatole Saderman, in addition to sound documents accessible via QR codes.
