Ibrahim Maalouf & The Trumpets of Michel-Ange Vol. 2

The Franco-Lebanese trumpeter and composer Ibrahim Maalouf performs on 29 October at La Riviera with the project The Trumpets of Michel-Ange Vol. 2. The performance is part of the Villanos del Jazz cycle and JAZZMADRID26. Festival Internacional Jazz Madrid

Internationally recognised for his distinctive use of the quarter-tone four-valve trumpet, an instrument created by his father to play the quarter tones characteristic of traditional Arabic music, Ibrahim Maalouf has built an extensive career that exceeds twenty published albums. Over the course of his career he has collaborated with figures from diverse backgrounds, such as Sting, Wynton Marsalis, Melody Gardot or Trilok Gurtu. He also won the César for best original music for the film Dans les forêts de Sibérie (2017), and received a Grammy nomination for world music alongside Angélique Kidjo for Queen of Sheba (2022).

In this new instalment, Trumpets of Michel-Ange Vol. 2 (2026), the musician takes up the path opened on the first volume of the project, deepening the blend of jazz, Middle Eastern scales, rock and rhythms influenced by Latin America, all supported by the use of the microtonal trumpet and a choral work for brass.

For his Madrid date, Ibrahim Maalouf takes to the La Riviera stage at the head of a large orchestra made up of several trumpeters and a full rhythm section to perform this new repertoire live. Accustomed to filling major international venues such as the Accor Arena in Paris, the Lincoln Center in New York or the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Franco-Lebanese instrumentalist will play one of the largest-scale dates within the JAZZMADRID programme.
