Raynald Colom & Diego Amador

The trumpeter Raynald Colom and the pianist and singer Diego Amador perform on 13 November at CentroCentro as part of the official programme of JAZZMADRID, the International Jazz Festival of Madrid. Both musicians present Constellations live, a joint project that explores the points of contact between contemporary jazz and traditional flamenco.

Recognised as one of the most outstanding figures of the trumpet on the European scene, Raynald Colom has shared the stage over his career with names such as Clark Terry, Randy Brecker or Roy Hargrove. His current project originates in a commission from the American trumpeter Dave Douglas for the Festival of New Trumpet Music in New York, subsequently developed at the Fundación Miró in Barcelona, where he began working on integrating modern jazz structures, cante jondo and contemporary groove.

To bring this repertoire to the stage, Raynald Colom teams up with the Seville-born musician Diego Amador, a self-taught flamenco singer and pianist with a wide career in flamenco-jazz who brings both his keyboard playing and his voice to the format. On stage, both musicians share the spotlight without fixed scores, letting the pieces evolve through improvisation and the contrast between the sound of the trumpet and singing at the piano.

At CentroCentro, the group performs as a quartet, completing its line-up with the electric bass of Julián Heredia and the drums of Israel Varela. Together they make up a dynamic concert in which the sound of the acoustic trumpet and the flamenco piano are underpinned by a versatile rhythm section.

Line-up:
