Richard Bona Quintet

UMusic Hotel Teatro Albéniz hosts a performance by Cameroonian vocalist and bassist Richard Bona on 1 November. He appears on stage in a quintet format, as part of the Villanos del Jazz cycle and JAZZMADRID26. Festival Internacional Jazz Madrid.

Accompanied by Cuban pianist Jesús Pupo, drummer Ludwig Afonso, a guitarist and a saxophonist, the musician delivers an infectious show in which the complex harmonies of jazz coexist with African polyrhythms. A combination notable for its rich sonority, its fluency and its ability to connect different musical cultures through improvisation and instrumental virtuosity.

Admirer of figures such as Miles Davis, Chet Baker and Ben Webster, Richard Bona found, during the early years of his career, the encouragement of musicians such as Joe Zawinul and Quincy Jones. Over the course of his career, he has worked with great jazz legends, among them Chick Corea, Michael Brecker and Branford Marsalis.

With more than a dozen albums released over the last two decades, Bona has established himself as an essential figure in contemporary music, capable of building bridges between continents and traditions. His performance promises a celebration of musical diversity in which jazz and African heritage meet in a live set full of rhythm, sensitivity and energy.
