Enslaved

Enslaved is a Norwegian extreme metal band formed by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson in Haugesund in 1991, now based in Bergen. The lineup has changed many times over the years; Bjørnson and Kjellson remain its only constant members. It now also includes lead guitarist Arve Isdal, keyboardist and singer Håkon Vinje, and drummer Iver Sandøy.

The band draws its inspiration from Norwegian Viking cultural and religious heritage, with most of its lyrics touching on Norse mythology. Initially a traditional black metal act, its sound has since evolved into a more progressive style. In 2014, the Norwegian government commissioned members of Enslaved to create a work celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian constitution, released in 2016 as the studio album Skuggsjá. The band has released sixteen studio albums, the most recent, Heimdal, coming out in 2023.
