Aretha Franklin by Vanessa Haynes of Incognito

A tribute to Aretha Franklin's songbook, sung by Vanessa Haynes, a soul singer and long-time lead vocalist of the jazz-funk band Incognito. The evening takes place at Boisdale of Canary Wharf in London.

This evening is a tribute to Aretha Franklin, not a performance by Franklin herself. Vanessa Haynes sings the songbook with a full live band, bringing the gospel roots, deep soul and emotional control that these songs require. The music draws on R&B, soul, funk, gospel and reggae.

Haynes is best known as the lead vocalist of Incognito, the British jazz-funk band, with more than fourteen years of international touring alongside them. Other collaborations include Van Morrison, Chaka Khan, Billy Ocean, Lulu, Anastacia, Leon Ware, Mario Biondi and Dave Stewart. Songs featured include "Respect", "(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman", "I Say a Little Prayer", "Chain of Fools", "Think" and "Day Dreaming".

Boisdale of Canary Wharf is a concert venue spread across two floors, where live music is performed daily in the second-floor restaurant. Jools Holland is its Patron of Music. Alongside the restaurant, the venue has four private dining rooms, the Hine Bar, a cigar lounge and a heated garden terrace.
