Machu Picchu: Journey to the Lost City

An immersive virtual reality experience that recreates the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu and the landscape around it, presented at Transmission House in Manchester.

Machu Picchu: Journey to the Lost City is a virtual reality experience set in the heart of the Inca Empire. Through the virtual reality world, visitors cross the Andean peaks, walk through the Temple of the Sun and along the famous terraces, and explore the site of this ancient citadel.

The recreation draws on rare access to Machu Picchu during the pandemic, with the site captured using drones, LiDAR and photogrammetry, and developed with guidance from Inca historians. More than 50 engineers hand-crafted the environment, which visitors can explore at their own pace. TERI, a robot companion, guides the route through the sacred temples, terraces and mountain views.

The experience is designed for families, history lovers and curious visitors of all ages. It is held at Transmission House, a Manchester venue that hosts exhibitions and cultural events, and it offers a way to learn about one of the world's ancient wonders without leaving the city.
