Overview
Burning Bug Soundsystem Session is a concert in Leeds at The Primrose, drawing on R&B, soul, funk, gospel and reggae. The evening brings these styles together on one bill.
Burning Bug Soundsystem Session brings together R&B, soul, funk, gospel and reggae, styles that share roots in Black American and Jamaican music. Soul and R&B grew from gospel and blues in the mid-twentieth century, funk built on soul's rhythms with a stronger emphasis on the groove, and reggae emerged in Jamaica in the late 1960s, developing out of ska and rocksteady.
Gospel is sacred vocal music rooted in African American church worship, and it fed directly into soul. The Primrose, a venue in Leeds that hosts concerts and shows, is the setting for this evening's blend of these genres on stage.
