Deer Tick formed in Providence, Rhode Island, in 2006, and John McCauley is its founder and principal songwriter. The band's catalogue, which includes the albums Divine Providence (2010) and Negativity (2012), is built around guitar-led rock songs with a strong emphasis on lyrics and melody. McCauley has led the project through several line-up changes since its early years, and the band has remained a recognisable name in American independent rock.
