girli

A concert by girli, the British singer and rapper working in alternative pop, at Village Underground in London, drawing on material from a forthcoming third album.

girli is a British singer and rapper born in the London borough of Camden in 1997, working in an alternative pop register. Active since 2014, the artist released the debut album Odd One Out in 2019 on Virgin EMI Records. The forthcoming third album, it's just my opinion, is described as returning to the artist's musical roots, with sharp alt-pop shaped by indie sleaze and by time spent in Camden and Shoreditch.

The lyrics address identity, sexuality, mental health and self-expression, and the source states that the artist speaks openly on feminism, queer and trans rights, immigrant rights and the far right. The single Slap on the Wrist confronts male violence and the failure to protect survivors. Another single, Better Undressed, is presented as a playful yet melancholic song about rekindling a relationship after a split.

Ellie Dixon is also listed among the artists for this night, though the material gives no further detail about that role. Village Underground hosts concerts and shows in London, and this event is a concert at that venue.
