King Woman

King Woman is an American group from San Francisco, playing shoegazing, post-metal and doom metal. This London concert brings the band to Oslo Hackney, a venue that hosts concerts and shows.

King Woman was formed in 2009 in San Francisco as a solo project by Kris Esfandiari, and the drummer Joseph Raygoza later joined the project. The group signed to Relapse Records, releasing the debut album Created in the Image of Suffering in 2017. Its second album, Celestial Blues, followed on the same label in 2021.

Celestial Blues takes its themes from John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost, which Esfandiari encountered again while working on the record. The songwriter also draws on childhood memories of religious gatherings held at home, including exorcisms and sermons about heaven and hell. The album's opening track, Morning Star, retells the fall of Lucifer.

The concert is at Oslo Hackney, a London venue that hosts concerts and shows. The evening suits listeners interested in heavy, atmospheric guitar music and in albums built around a single narrative. The usual line-up on stage and the repertoire played live are not documented here.
