Simple Minds

Simple Minds, the British new wave and alternative rock group from Glasgow, are performing at The O2 in London. The concert is presented with Gary Numan as a named artist on the bill.

Simple Minds were formed in Glasgow in 1977 around singer Jim Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill. Signed to Virgin Records, the group released their debut album Life in a Day in 1979, and their work since has been rooted in new wave and alternative rock. The band's sound draws on the post-punk and new wave scene of the late 1970s, combining atmospheric guitar textures with anthemic vocals.

The context for this date names Gary Numan as a second artist on the bill, alongside Simple Minds. Gary Numan is the artist associated with the synth-driven new wave of the same period, and the two acts share a place in the British music of that era. The precise running order and any support arrangements for this night are not given here.

The O2 is a large multi-purpose arena on the Greenwich peninsula in south-east London, and it hosts concerts and shows throughout the year. The evening suits listeners who follow British rock and new wave from the late 1970s and 1980s, as well as those who know the band's catalogue from its long career.
