About — The artist

Alex Cornish is a singer-songwriter based in Edinburgh. He studied at The Harvey Grammar School in Folkestone.

His debut album, Until the Traffic Stops, was released in 2008 on the Bellevue Records label, co-produced by Stuart Wilson. It was remixed the same year, largely re-recorded this time by Cornish alone. A reissue came out at the end of April 2009. Cornish wrote, sang and performed all the tracks in his personal studio in Edinburgh, with Simon Berriman (drums) and Bevis Hungate (piano), who also form part of his live band. His music has been broadcast on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music and XFM Scotland. His track "I'm on the Right Side" served as the closing song of the film Solstice. In 2010 he released his second album, Call Back, on 27 September, followed by his third, No Shore, in June 2011, which The Sunday Times described as a "magnificent album". He supported Alison Moyet, Tom McRae, Starsailor and Amy Macdonald.

His fourth album, Beyond the Serenade, was released in May 2015. In 2013 he toured the United Kingdom with Kathryn Williams, who was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, and in whose band he also played piano. His music features in several American series, including The Big C (Showtime) and Private Practice (ABC).

In 2024 he released two albums: Henry Found the Time, mixed by Paul Savage at Chem 19, and Squall Critical, mixed in his own studio. He also writes string arrangements for other artists and music for television, notably Wainwright Walks for the BBC and the string and brass arrangements for the group Morcheeba.
