About — The artist

Duran Duran (pronounced /djʊˌræn djʊˈræn/) are a British new wave band, from Birmingham in the West Midlands (England). They were for a time part of the New Romantic movement associated with 1980s new wave. The band was formed in 1978 by Nick Rhodes (keyboards) and John Taylor (bass). They were later joined by Roger Taylor (drums), Andy Taylor (guitar) and Simon Le Bon (vocals). The three Taylors in the band are not related to one another, nor to Roger Taylor (drummer of the band Queen).

Duran Duran's line-up has changed over the years, including guitarist Warren Cuccurullo (1986-2001), replacing Andy Taylor, who left in 1986, and drummers Steve Ferrone (1986-1989, 1993) and Sterling Campbell (1989-1991), replacing Roger Taylor, who left in 1985. Following Warren Cuccurullo's departure in 2001, the band returned to its original line-up. Andy Taylor left the 'Fab Five' again in the summer of 2006.

In 2007, when Duran Duran received a Brit Award for outstanding contribution to music, the American magazine Billboard reported that the band's sales exceeded 80 million albums worldwide. Other sources put record sales at as much as 100 million.

Among their biggest hits are The Reflex, Rio, Save a Prayer, A View to a Kill (co-written with John Barry and the theme for the James Bond film A View to a Kill), Girls on Film, Planet Earth, Is There Something I Should Know?, All She Wants Is, Ordinary World, Notorious (which features in the film Donnie Darko), Do You Believe in Shame? (which features in the film Tequila Sunrise), and Out Of My Mind (which features in the film The Saint). Duran Duran are also known for the quality of their music videos.
