About — The artist
Hans Zimmer, born 12 September 1957 in Frankfurt am Main (West Germany), is a German-born, naturalised American film composer and soundtrack producer.
Active since the 1980s and gradually specialising in orchestral scores, Hans Zimmer is known for composing the soundtracks of numerous successful films across a wide range of genres. He has also composed music for several animated films, television series and video games.
Through his studio Remote Control Productions, he is also a central figure in a system of musical creation prevalent in Hollywood during the 2010s and 2020s: dozens of music artists work on the same film and supply melodies to the lead composer, while only the latter is credited as composer. Among these former assistants, figures such as Harry Gregson-Williams, John Powell and Lorne Balfe have emerged.
As of 2022, Hans Zimmer has notably won two Academy Awards for Best Original Score (out of 12 nominations), for The Lion King (1994) and Dune (2021).
