About — The artist
Hejira is a seven-piece British group formed to celebrate the great works of Joni Mitchell. Its repertoire largely covers the major songs, from Court and Spark to Wild Things Run Fast. The group was created by Pete Oxley of the Spin jazz club in Oxford for a special Christmas concert devoted to Joni Mitchell in 2022; it has since gone on to tour and perform further concerts.
The majority of its repertoire is built on Mitchell's live album Shadows and Light (1979), but it also performs works by Mitchell's collaborators and by members of the group. Hejira has been touring the United Kingdom since 2023 and continues to perform across the United Kingdom and Ireland. In 2024 it released a live recording in CD and in L.S.L. ("Look. Scan. Listen.") format, a hardback book whose QR codes give access to the music, with lyrics, scores, images and interviews. This format was devised by Stuart Miller and Pete Oxley.
The group has made a dozen high-quality videos for YouTube and has received praise from respected writers, including Ted Gioia.
