Nevermore

Nevermore is an American heavy metal band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 1992. The band was born after three of its members — singer Warrel Dane, bassist Jim Sheppard and guitarist Jeff Loomis — left their previous band, Sanctuary; several drummers came and went before the arrival of Van Williams in 1994.

The band went through numerous line-up changes; as of 2024, Loomis remains the only original member. It became a quintet in 1996 with the arrival of second guitarist Pat O'Brien. After the album The Politics of Ecstasy with O'Brien, he was replaced by Tim Calvert, who appeared on Dreaming Neon Black (1999), before leaving a year after its release. With the two following albums, Dead Heart in a Dead World (2000) and Enemies of Reality (2003), Nevermore became a quartet again. Steve Smyth joined the band as second guitarist in 2004 and played on the sixth album, This Godless Endeavor (2005); after his departure in 2006, the band continued as a quartet.

About a year after the release of its seventh album, The Obsidian Conspiracy, Nevermore went on hiatus in 2011 due to internal tensions, leading to the departures of Loomis and Williams. Without ever having officially split up, the band remained largely inactive until Dane's death in 2017. In December 2024, Loomis and Williams announced Nevermore's reformation for 2025.
