About — The artist
Grace Latoya Hamilton (born 6 August 1982), known professionally as Spice, is a Jamaican dancehall artist, singer and songwriter. Nicknamed the "Queen of Dancehall" and recognised as one of the most influential Jamaican female artists of all time, she is regarded worldwide as one of the most prominent dancehall artists. Known for her aggressive flow, musical versatility and outspoken lyrics, Spice was first noticed after her performance at the annual Sting festival in 2000. She released her first single, "Complain", for Dave Kelly's Madhouse Records in 2003.
Her first major hit was the controversial single "Romping Shop" with Vybz Kartel in 2009. She released her self-titled debut EP (2009), then signed with VP Records for her second EP, So Mi Like It (2014). In 2016, Spice became the first female dancehall artist to be nominated for Best Reggae Act at the MOBO Awards. Her first full-length project, the mixtape Captured (2018), debuted at number one on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. Her debut studio album, 10 (2021), was nominated for Best Reggae Album at the 64th Grammy Awards in 2022. After leaving VP, she independently released her second studio album, Emancipated (2022), on her own label, Spice Official Entertainment, followed by the deluxe edition in September 2022. Her third studio album, Mirror 25 (2024), is her second independent project.
