About — The artist
Weezer is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band currently consists of three of its founding members: singer and guitarist Rivers Cuomo, drummer, guitarist and backing vocalist Patrick Wilson, and keyboardist, guitarist and backing vocalist Brian Bell. Their most famous songs include Undone – The Sweater Song, Buddy Holly, Hash Pipe, Island in the Sun, Beverly Hills, Pork and Beans, and Perfect Situation. Their style lies between alternative rock and power pop.
After the band signed with Geffen Records in 1993, they released their first album, Weezer (also known as the Blue Album), in 1994. The album was followed by music videos for the songs Buddy Holly, Undone – The Sweater Song, and Say It Ain't So. Their second album, Pinkerton (1996), featured a darker musical style but was, compared to its predecessor, a commercial failure. The Blue Album and Pinkerton are frequently cited among the best albums of the 1990s.
In 2001, Weezer released another album titled Weezer, also known as the Green Album, with a new bassist, Mikey Welsh. With a more pop sound, and thanks to the singles Hash Pipe and Island in the Sun, the album was a commercial success. After the album's release, Welsh left the band and was replaced by bassist, backing vocalist, and keyboardist Scott Shriner in 2002.
Weezer has released fifteen studio albums, including a covers album. As of 2013, Weezer had sold 9.2 million albums in the United States and over 17 million worldwide.
