Overview
Ballet of Lights: Sleeping Beauty is a dance production that retells the fairy tale through classical ballet and illuminated costumes. It is presented at Brava Theater Center in San Francisco.
Ballet of Lights: Sleeping Beauty retells the well-known fairy tale through classical ballet. Six local dancers perform on stage, and their costumes glow in the dark, so the shape and color of each movement change with the lighting. The production combines traditional dance vocabulary with modern technology.
The show was created by María Farelo and Cristian Pérez, working through Luma Artistas S.L. It runs about 60 minutes with no intermission, so the story is performed in one continuous stretch. The dancing is the main storytelling element, and the lighting design is central to how each scene looks.
The production is staged at Brava Theater Center, a San Francisco venue that hosts concerts and shows. It suits audiences who know the Sleeping Beauty story and want to see it re-imagined through dance and light.
