Music for the Masses is a Halloween party in Los Angeles, presented as an electronic night with Orlove billed as the act. Costumes are encouraged, so attendees are invited to dress for the holiday.
The programming takes its inspiration from bands of the period, among them Joy Division, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Depeche Mode, Blondie, Talking Heads, Gary Numan, Eurythmics and The Smiths. A wider group of acts from the same era, including Ministry, Oingo Boingo and Front 242, is also part of the reference points, and the title sums up the sound as dark 1980s new wave.
