Stevie Wonder is an American singer-songwriter born in 1950 in Saginaw. He began his career in 1961 on the Motown label, where he explored jazz, blues and rhythm and blues. Over the following decades he became one of the most prominent voices of soul music.
The concert centers on Songs in the Key of Life, the double album released in 1976 that gathers the songs of this anniversary show. The program moves across R&B, soul, funk, gospel and reggae, the styles that run through the album's writing and arrangements.
Madison Square Garden, the New York venue hosting the show, is a major site for exhibitions and cultural events in the city. The evening suits listeners who know Stevie Wonder's catalog and those who want to hear its songs in a large New York setting.
