Overview
A tribute concert honoring the music of Luther Vandross, the American R&B singer and songwriter, presented at Epiphany Center for the Arts in Chicago.
Luther Vandross was an American singer, songwriter and producer whose career ran from the 1970s to 2005. He built his reputation on smooth soul and R&B ballads, and albums such as Never Too Much (1981) and Songs (1986) are central to his catalog. Before his solo success, he sang backing vocals for other artists.
The Velvet Experience is presented as a homage to Vandross, so the music is performed by other artists rather than by Vandross himself. The program suits listeners who follow American soul and R&B and want to hear this repertoire in a live setting.
Epiphany Center for the Arts is a Chicago venue that hosts concerts and shows, and this tribute takes place in its Epiphany Hall.
