Dumpstaphunk

Dumpstaphunk is a New Orleans funk band whose music combines R&B, soul, funk, gospel and reggae. This Chicago concert brings the group to Garcia's Chicago.

Dumpstaphunk is a New Orleans band rooted in funk, with a sound that also draws on R&B, soul, gospel and reggae. Ivan Neville, a member of the Neville family whose name is tied to the city's soul and funk tradition, is one of the group's central members, alongside bassist Tony Hall. The band's approach keeps the heavy, syncopated bass and groove-driven rhythm of New Orleans funk at its core, while bringing in the vocal warmth of soul and gospel and the off-beat pulse of reggae.

The project sits in the lineage of New Orleans funk and its family-based bands, where the rhythm section and the groove carry as much weight as the songs themselves. Listeners who follow funk, soul and roots-leaning R&B will find the band's blend of styles a direct thread from the city's classic recordings to a more contemporary, multi-genre sound.

Garcia's Chicago is a Chicago venue that hosts concerts and shows, and this date places the band on a Chicago stage for audiences interested in live funk and soul.
