Emo Night Karaoke

A karaoke night centered on emo music, presented at Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco. The format invites guests to sing along rather than watch a band perform.

Emo Night Karaoke is built around emo, a style of rock that took shape within the American hardcore punk scene of the 1980s, with Washington, D.C. bands such as Rites of Spring among its early reference points. Its emphasis is on emotionally direct lyrics and melodic, strained vocals, which makes the genre a natural fit for group singing.

The format turns those songs into a participatory evening, with guests singing rather than watching a set by a band. Bottom Of The Hill is a San Francisco venue that hosts concerts and shows, and this event brings the karaoke format to it.

The night suits anyone who wants to sing along to emo songs with others, whether or not they follow the genre's history closely.
