Extended Play Loft Party with Mike Dunn

A Washington electronic music night built around DJ and producer Mike Dunn, held at the National Union Building, a venue for concerts and shows in the city.

Mike Dunn is a DJ and producer associated with the Chicago house scene. House emerged in the city's clubs in the early 1980s and built its sound on repeated four-beat drum patterns, synthesized basslines and vocal samples, and DJ sets remain the central form of the style. This Extended Play Loft Party brings that club-oriented tradition to Washington under the Extended Play name.

The National Union Building hosts concerts and shows in Washington, and this evening is one of its electronic programs. Electronic music is the focus of the night, with the emphasis on DJ-led playback and mixing rather than on a band performing with instruments.

The format suits listeners who follow house and techno and want a club-style night out. Anyone interested in how Chicago house developed into a wider electronic dance culture will find the evening's programming a direct connection to that history.
