Federale

Federale is a Portland, Oregon psychedelic rock act whose sound draws on European genre cinema. The group shares this concert bill at Kilowatt in San Francisco with El Radio Fantastique and Noelle & The Deserters.

Federale formed in 2004 in Portland, Oregon, after the local group Cocaine Unicorn disbanded. Collin Hegna, of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, spearheaded the new project, an American psychedelic rock ensemble. Its cinematic sound draws on European genre films, notably Spaghetti Westerns and giallo thrillers, and gives special weight to the compositions of Ennio Morricone.

The evening at Kilowatt, a San Francisco venue for concerts and shows, places Federale alongside El Radio Fantastique and Noelle & The Deserters. For listeners, the bill offers psychedelic rock with a film-score flavor from a Portland act whose sound is steeped in European genre cinema. It suits anyone curious how Morricone's film music translates into a rock band.
